What are Dental Implants?

A dental implant is a replacement of the roots of the teeth. They are surgically placed into the jawbone and once healed a crown is attached to the implant. A crown is the visible portion of the tooth that is seen above the gum line.

How do they work?

Dental implants are made of titanium. Titanium is light, strong, and most importantly bio-compatible. What this means is that when an implant is placed in the jawbone the body will not only heal around the implant but will integrate into the implant. This process is known as osseointegration.
